Northern Lights Boat Cruise from Reykjavik
Northern Lights Boat Cruise
Looking for a different way to see the Northern Lights? Why not climb aboard a Northern Lights boat cruise departing from the old harbour in Reykjavík? These boats will sail off into Faxaflói bay and leave the city lights nothing but a twinkle on the horizon. Whilst Northern Lights tours on land can be a little more restricted, these boat trips can move anywhere and as often as they please. So, the chase is on!! It is quite a sight to see the stunning Aurora whilst out on the ocean. If your sea legs are strapped on nice and tight, we highly recommend it!!
How and where?
These tours depart once to twice an evening during the winter months from the old harbour in Reykjavík, just a short walk from the city centre. It normally takes around 2-3 hours and refreshments can be purchased on board. Warm overalls will be provided and the cabin on the lower deck is always open if you find it a little cold.
Am I guaranteed to see the Aurora?
These tours are based entirely on the weather. If the skies are too cloudy, or if the weather is simply unsuitable, then the tours do not operate. A decision will be made around 17:00 every day as to whether or not the tours will operate. If the tour goes ahead, then all efforts will be made to find the Aurora. However, this is something that can never be guaranteed. The Northern Lights are a naturally occurring and unpredictable phenomenon, and this means that we never know exactly when or where they will appear. However, the great news is that if your first trip is unsuccessful, then you can try again on another evening at no cost. That is a promise.
