Into the Glacier – The Langjökull Ice Tunnels
Into the Glacier
Langjökull. Iceland, and Europe’s second largest glacier. Whilst Vatnajökull is the largest glacier in Europe, Langjökull is certainly no slouch, either. What makes this glacier so unique is that, hidden in its depths, is a unique opportunity to explore its specially created ice tunnels as you go deep into the glacier itself and learn all about how these colossal ice structures are formed, how they move and what the future means for them.
How and Where?
Langjökull (L-aow-ng-yoo-koo-tl) or Long Glacier is in West Iceland. There are multiple tours running every day on location, or even with departures from Reykjavík. You will travel in a specially modified glacial transport vehicle and head up onto the glacier and descend down into to the blue tunnels. Remember to wrap up warm.
